3 Day Refresh: Day One!

2014-07-24-102954Okay!  I’ve opened up the package, and I’ve started it! So here I am, all excited and stuff!

So for breakfast, I had a Chocolate Shakeology with nothing but ice, and it was delicious. Morning tea is satisfying, and after an hour after tea, it will be time for Fiber Sweep.

The right way (selon-moi)  to lose weight (or should we say, burn fat), is to control the amount of food you eat, in addition to the types of foods you eat. Yes, of course, it is important to cut out processed foods (stop eating crap out of a box and start making your own meals from fresh ingredients). It is important to cut out going out to eat at restaurants and stop ordering pizza and Chinese food to go. You need to lay off of the alcohol and the sugary sodas. All of that is critical. But there is something that is far more important than the quality of the food you are eating.

There are all kinds of “get thin fast” scams going on out there which try to sell unwary consumers on supplements with magic properties. Somehow, these magic herbs or drugs will melt away the fat while you do everything like you’ve done before, changing nothing about your eating and exercising habits.

 

I’m here to be the bearer of bad news–there is no magic pill, no silver bullet that will give you a beach body. If you want to look good in a bikini or in swim trunks, you have to change your lifestyle. And yes, this means you must modify how you eat, and how you move your body. I had to do it in order to reach my fitness goals, and it’s the rare person that has a beach-body without having to lift a finger.

I dislike the words “diet” and “exercise.” They imply thankless, gruelling work and food that isn’t very fun. They imply hardship, and unpleasantness. They imply that you will hate every minute of doing them. And I can tell you from personal experience, if you hate it, you are not likely to keep doing it. Particularly when there isn’t a paycheck in it.

I much prefer the terms, “food plan” and “training.”

But what will work? What is the best approach? Calorie counting, portion control, low carb, Paleo? In the next article, I’ll explore methods that worked for me.
